I have a 55# Haswing trolling motor and I've managed to break the bracket on it twice now hitting under water obstructions. The first time I repaired it with some epoxy and metal plates and it held pretty well for a couple times out on the water. However, I was just out yesterday on a river where the water level was down a bit and there were a LOT of submerged rocks. I managed to break the mount again, but fortunately the metal repair pieces held it together, after a fashion. Anyway, is there anyone who makes a transom mount motor that has a breakaway mount? I've seen it on a Minn Kota model, but it's a 24v or 36v unit that costs about $1200 and would be MASSIVE overkill for my 14' inflatable sport boat. I'm already planning to just replace the broken bracket with a similar one made by Minn Kota and then at some point I'd like to sell the Haswing motor and buy a Minn Kota with the flexible composite shaft. However, a lot of the water ways I'm going through have obstructions and I'm likely to hit something again. Is the composite shaft on the Minn Kota motors enough to resist hitting some rocks or submerged trees occasionally, or should I be looking to figure out a way to devise my own breakaway bracket for a 12v 55# thrust motor, assuming nothing like that exists currently?
