Greetings,
I recently purchased an older boat (1978 Hydra Sports 178VEE) and I have a problem with the trolling motor. The boat came with two trolling motors (one installed and one as a spare). The one that came as the spare appeared to be newer and bigger than the one that was on the boat so I switched them out. The problem is now it blows fuses. This is a 43LB thrust Motor Guide motor. As I said this is an older boat and the fuses it uses are the old style like those that were used in automobiles in the 60's or 70's. Can any of you help? What do I need to do to solve this problem? What is the largest amp fuse made in this style? Do I need to replace the fuse with some sort of circuit breaker?
Thanks for your help.

In addition to the fuse size being too small, you may also have wiring that is too small. Just like your house, installing a larger fuse or breaker in a circuit that is not capable of handling the increased current can burn your house down because the wire itself now becomes the fuse and will burn before the fuse blows.

12v motorguides generally call for 50amp breakers, 24v usually ask for 40 amp.

I use a 40amp (its all they had that day) on my 12V 46lb motor and never blow it.
