Trolling motor help

I have 1990 pro deep v 16' aluminum bass boat. The deck on the front is quite small. The foot control for my trolling motor is kinda tall and the cables cause it to flip over alot. I can't move it around at all because the cable is so stiff that it turns over. I have to set it straight under my fishing seat witch makes it very uncomfortable.
Should I buy a different type trolling motor or is there something I can do to solve this problem?

I don't have a foot control, but have used my buddy's. His is set in a recessed housing in his deck. I remember him saying that it was something he added. Of course you need room under your deck.
Something like these...kind of expensive for what it is, but something you might be able to fabricate on your own.
