I have been looking/thinking about a trolling motor for my 17CC for a while now and saw on another site that Wally World had some on close out so I bought one.
I bought a 50lb bow mount FW minn kota edge. I need to remove a section of bow rail to install, I hope the 50# is enough for canal fishing and flats.
I did a bit of research on the web and some say the salt water series are powder coated vs paint . Not too worried about that, might conformal coat the board if the covers come off easily. Not sure how I want to mount the foot pedal, all things equal think I would have rather had hand control. I think I will mount a deep cycle battery in console and do a quick disconnect so I can easily charge it from other.

How can I tell what the current draw is to calculate guage wire I need to run from battery or is there a typical value? Since I have never installed a TM before anyone have any other advice?

A 55# Edge (no 50# shown in my catalog) draws about 50 amps. #6 wire is essential.

I messed it it some today and it really looks as if I will have to remove the entire bow rail to use it and I not sure I want to do that. So I may return it and start looking for transom mount one. :-(
