I am mounting a trolling motor to a fiberglass bowrider. The problem is that there is no access to underneath the deck where the braket needs to mount.

So--- do I have to cut an access hole so I can attach the bolts or is there some sort of anchor available (similar to a butterfly drywall anchor but marine grade) that people use to mount the motor in this situation?

Thanks in advance for your input. Great site- has saved this new boater a lot of time, money and headache.

Re: Trolling Motor Mount

Most trolling motors come supplied with a 1/2" dia rubber plug which contains a nut, which is inserted into the hole in the boat.
You then put the bolt thru the mounting bracket, into the rubber plug, and thread it onto the nut. The nut tightens, compresses the rubber so it is secure in the hole. Thats it.

Like these:

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jhtml?id=0019016016153a&navAction=push&navCount=4&indexId=cat21380&podId=0019016&catalogCode=IE&parentId=cat21380& parentType=index&rid=&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fcatalog%2Fitem-link.jhtml.1_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21276

Re: Trolling Motor Mount

Just as a thought, I mounted a trolling motor one time, and I mounted it with those fasteners, and then used some automotive air conditioner condencer mounts between the motor and the deck. They look like small motor mounts and isolate any vibration and shock if you were to hit something. It was the quietest electric motor I ever heard. If I ever have to mount another one I will do it again.
