Trolling Motor Position

Have a question that I am sure someone on the forum can give me some insight on.

I am about to mount my Motorguide 55 TM to the bow of my Sunbird. I am using the removable mount so it will be easy to take on and off based on fishing or just cruising.

My question is does it matter the angle (in relation to the point on the bow) that the motor is placed? I have positioned the motor and mount in two different locations to see which is best and I am not sure if it really matters other than my preference.

The first would be having the motor run almost parallel to the center line of the boat when stowed. This would place the motor along the side of the bow light and cleat and not require either of these to be removed/relocated.

The second would be what I think is the standard mounting position with the motor running along the side of the boat when stowed. To mount in this postion, I would have to relocated the light and cleat as well as possibe remove or alter the side rail for clearance.

The only picture I have is of the second option but can add pictures tomorrow of the other. All input is welcomed.

Thanks

Re: Trolling Motor Position

I have mounted most of my trollers off to one side or the other up to about 18" from the centerline, Sunbird.

I find that they work just as well there as they would on center.
