I have a 71 lb 24 v motorguide trolling motor. I'm looking for a new prop and was wondering what the difference between two blade and three blade props is. Also what is the difference between regular props and glass filled props.

Can't help with much detail but a 3 blade should give a little better control.

Re: trolling motor prop

A reg. prop has some flex to it,which is good for smaller thrust electrics.
Glass filled are stiffer and normally only used for bigger thrust electrics as I've read that they can damage smaller ones.
There are also metal ones, kinda reserved for the 36 volt models.

As far as blades,I have 2...a 2 blade and a 4.
The 2 is supposed to be for open water and the 4 blade for weeds.
I imagine the more blades the quicker the response.

Re: trolling motor prop

For your 24V TM, go with the glass filled prop.

3 blade props will be smoother than 2 blade props, less vibration. I imagine you have a MotorGuide and looking at their 3 - 3 blade props. In a nut shell, plastic for 12V motors, glass filled for 24V motors and aluminum for 36V motors, less to more pitch respectively. I have all 3 MG props and running the aluminum on a 24V stern mount TM, glass filled on a 24V bow mount.

Re: trolling motor prop

First of all, thanks to all for the info. I think I've decided to go with the three blade prop, but am still on the fence as to whether to go with a glass filled or plastic. It sounds like the glass filled has less flex and would therfore be more responsive on my 20 ft. boat. However I do alot of very slow moving around and a little bit slower start wouldn't necessarily turn me off so to speak as long as it would more or less catch up once it got going in the higher gears as I also do a lot of fishing in high wind conditions. The thing that concerns me most with the glass filled versus plastic is that I do most of my fishing in very shallow water and am concerned that the glass filled may break easier on underwater rocks and logs. Any thoughts on this?
