Re: trolling motor question

30# 36# will do fine, I used to have a 17# on my 12 aluminum. I don't know if they are making them that small any more. I've got a 42# on my 16' deep and wide v hull now.

You will actually be able to make a small wake behind your boat with that. All you really need is about a 17-20lb motor for that. You might be able to save some money by buying a used one at your local pawn shop.

Re: trolling motor question

Yes it will be faster, but what are you wanting to do with it? Are you wanting to use it as a primary motor? Troll?

A 30# thrust motor is a big motor for that boat is all Im saying. It would not work for me, because I slow troll, and even on its lowest setting, it would still go too fast.

But, each case is different. Good Luck!

Wayne
I agree you do not need a high thrust motor. I have seen more than one guy in the drink because he had a high thrust motor on a small boat and every time tapped the switch thru everyone off balance until some fell overboard.

Re: trolling motor question

haha i did not think of that. i am mainly going to use the trolling motor to run the rivers. its pretty quiet on the river and i dont really wanna run my engine.its a no wake zone anyway and i am not lookin for speed with a trolling motor just looking to push the boat up and down the river

Re: trolling motor question

Spend the money and get a variable speed one. I just went from a 30 # thrust, 5 speed MinnKota to a 46# variable speed motorguide. I can now go both slower and faster than before. For trolling flies, it is a lot better (I was dragging a bucket before).

Re: trolling motor question

I would buy two little trollers, that way if you wanted to up the speed you can kick in the other one

quite a few years ago, sears had a price matching thing going, and I had a sears card

someone, I forget who, had a minnkota on sale for 99 bucks for a 32 pounder

all sears had was a gamefisher, but wouldnt match the price cause it wasnt the exact same thing

I thought this was cheezy, so asked how long is the return period ... 90 days

So I got two 36 pounders for Hydrophobia, the 14 foot semi vee, and two Die Hard batteries

my buddy Jim and I took it out on opening day, and we were with two canoe fisherman ... I cranked the port engine on and the boat began to move nicely ... but the canoe, with its pumped up paddlers splashing along, was edging ahead ... so I brought the starboard engine on and started making a nice bit of wake ... right past the canoe, right for the honey hole at the other end of the lake

we were both into a nice fat trout by the time the paddle boys puffed into the area, and were having a horrible time trying to cast in the Tippecanoe

As we sipped hot coffee from our vastly more stable platform, I casually remarked the water was 58.2 degrees, better not fall in

Hooting and hollering from another part of the lake drew our attention, and with a silent hum of engines, we were gone - it was fun - and the twins drew attention, which is something I have never had a problem with, lol

We gave em a few tows around, hardly bothered the engines

just a thought - get em cheap on ebay, nobody wants the little runt kickers now, grab em!

I wonder how fast three would be ...
:D
