trolling motor question

have a 16' 1985 alum. starcraft ss. want to install a bow mount elec. trolling motor.not sure which model to get. (probably the 55).will the mount fit under the bow rail.i would like to remove the motor when not using it.

I can't help with the mount but I have a 1991 16' Starcraft fishmaster and I recently bought a Minn Kota Endura C2 50 transom mount and the it is plent powerful enough. I typically don't go past 2 or 3 on the forward speed. I have also been very impressed with the battery life when using the motor.

If you intend to mount the motor without doing something with the bow rail you will not be able to stow and deploy the motor. You CANNOT simply raise the motor straight up and run at speed with it in that position. If it drops you have a hole in your boat and a trashed motor. The Minnkota PD has a very small footprint and any of the quick release brackets can be used. A 55# is very adequate for that boat unless you tend to fish regularly in extremely windy conditions.
