Trolling motor recommendation

I have a 19' bow rider, with a fishing package (platforms, livewell etc). Since it's a dual purpose boat, I can't put a foot operated trolling motor on it. What I'd like to do is use a scissor mount on the bow, with a removeable bracket.

My question, would a Minn Kota 40# motor push around my 3000#+ boat decently enough? They go for about $230, and the next size up is 55# for twice that much.

More is better, for normal operation the 40# would be fine, but a little wind or current, you will wish you had more.

Re: Trolling motor recommendation

I've been doing research on these things for a couple of months now. Lots of good info. out there if you use a good search engine. I put a 74lb 52 inch Minn Kota on my 20 ft Lund, returned it and am waiting for the credit so I can get the 62 inch. May be going with the 101 too. I don't think the 40 will do much, sure it'll move you but I've read so much about underpowering and short shafts. Just so you know, there's 2 versions of the Minn Kota, one comes out of the bracket and one doesn't. And that's one heavy bracket, at least on the 24 volt model. Don't think you'll regret spending the $$$ for the better of the 2 toys. Good luck

Capt'n Mike
