Trolling Motor Shaft length?

I'm looking to purchase the Motorguide W75 trolling motor very soon, but I am unsure of the shaft length that I should choose.

I have a 16' Thundercraft Regency Open Bow boat.

Any suggestions? I was thinking 54" shaft.

I would say yes, you do need a long shaft. I have a 42" shaft on this

and its just long enough. You have a nice boat by the way.

You measure from the deck where the motor will be mounted to the water line and add one foot. If you routinely fish in very rough water you may want to add 18-inches.
