I have an older motorguide 767 brute motor. It worked great for years then the last time I was out it died. It quit working after I changed the speed setting to get back to the dock. I thought the speed selector switch was the obvious problem so I replaced it and still nothing. After checking the other two switches on it (on off, power switch) everything looks fine but still nothing. I took a volt meter and tested the wires and it had 13 volts at the motor. This made me think the motor itself was bad, but I took the lower unit off and attached it directly to a battery and it ran! Any ideas?

You could have had the wires in the shaft come apart. Before you reattach the motor to the shaft make sure you reseal the shaft and connections.
