My old motorguide trolling motor died on me today. I am in the market for a new one.Bow mount foot control. My question is, do the ones that electric steer as opposed to the cable steer use a lot more juice from the battery? I was thinking the minncota power drive looks like a good bet for the type of fishing I do.

Re: Trolling motor

I have cables, dad has electric steer. We/I have not noticed any difference in power usage, but it would be really hard to tell unless both systems were setup and used identically. We both get a full days worth of fishing out of them. I like his elec set up, as it can be moved midship, or even aft, with the 18' wires. I am stuck trying to manuveor the cable controller which is not smooth and consistent, and gives me a sore knee after a few days of use.
