Ok ... maybe this is stupid but im wanting to get a 14 or 15' aluminum jon boat and since im new to boating, plus pretty broke, plus know nothing about outboard motors im thinking of just going with a trolling motor for main power.
I currently have a old 1964 wide flatbottom aluminum canoe with outriggers, fishing seats, single battery and 30# c2 minn kota trolling motor.
The tippyness of the canoe is what makes me want a jon boat but really trolling around isnt that bad. With 2 people and gear loaded- the 30# motor does pretty good but would like a couple more mph.
So.... Say I get a 14' jonboat and its me and a buddy (220 lbs each) and have a cooler and tackle boxes and gear.... what type of trolling setup would I need to be looking at if I wanted to move pretty darn quick for a trolling only powered craft?
would 24v cut it or would I need to go 36v?
What # of thrust should I be looking at and what setup would last me a day of trolling without overdraining the battery bank?
Any help or suggestions are appreciated!
