I have a Boston whaler rage 14 which I convert to a fishing boat. Love it so far. The only problem I have with it is while fishing along the shore line with trolling motor. The back of the boat tent to swing left and right making it very hard to control..... I wonder if I add a homemake rudder at the back of the boat will help. Any one have this problem before. I need help.

What is the trolling motor setup? Is it pedal operated? Does it rotate for direction?

If it's a transom mount trolling motor, you might get a lot of that, depending on the boat. That's why bow mount trolling motors are preferred. Bow mount pulls the boat, while transom mount pushes and the boat tends to wonder.

I used to take a piece of plywood and just clamp it to the side with visegrip clamps or C-clamp. It will swing up if it hits bottom etc Almost anything will do, but you need something back there without a motor.

Sorry, I am not clear about the boat. It is a jet boat so no outboard. And it is a 40 lbs trolling motor bow mount. I think the problem is that the jet boat is flat at the back.
