I was trolling for crappie last week and when I got to the end of the lake and wanted to head for the dock when I pushed the throttle down the boat motor would not open up.I had to hold the carb. linkage to get back to the dock. What is likely the problem?

Check compression.----Then check for spark on all 4 cylinders.-----Perhaps one of the fuel pumps has a problem.

If you weren't trolling with a trolling plate on that motor there's a good chance it loaded up and fouled a plug.

If you could still make it accelerate by moving the throttle linkage at the carb, then it means the throttle control lever at the helm is no longer connected to the motor. Check the cable.

Mi duckdown it is a console.
undone it is connected.

I put a little oil on the throttle linkage arm elbows and it worked for a couple of trips.

Could the problem be the primer bulb I ask because I have always had trouble getting it to pump hard?I have bought good 25.00 bulbs.

If one of the float valves is leaking the bulb will not go hard.-----Look for fuel leaking out of carburetor when priming.-----If a fuel pump has a ruptured diaphragm then the bulb will not go hard.--Fuel would be leaking into the engine.---Disconnect hose at the motor, does bulb go hard ?

If you can get the throttle to work correctly when moving it by hand, then no, these would be two separate issues. Moving the linkage by hand at the carb and having it work would mean the fuel related parts are working correctly...but. If you were just advancing the timing you could get the RPM's to increase a bit even without moving the actual throttle linkage at the carb.

Please respond to post # 4 as that will help folks narrow down as to what might be wrong with your motor.

racerone compression and spark are good don't know about fuel pump. When the spark advance lever was pushed to keep the motor running after it was revved up I would release the sal and it will stay at that speed.
