Trolling with a dispy diver without release

I recently aquired some small dipsy divers that do not have releases on them. I've used dipsy divers before with great success but they came with the release system that was easy to tell if you had a fish on. I'm wondering how the divers without the releases work and will bites be as noticable now? I suspect that my rods will be constantly bouncing now without the release system. Is this the case?

Yes, I have experienced the same and prefer the old types. Change is hard on ole folks lik me.

So how does the action between the two types of dipsy's differ? The dispy's with the release allow the rod to stay bent until the fish bite sets off the release. What kind of action can I expect from the non-release dipsy's?

are you talking about the small 3" divers?

I think it may be smaller than 3 inch. It's the small one without the clip release.

I tried that one and just didn't see the point. It doesn't dive much. The next size up works ok. I have a friend who borrowed mine and he uses them for all diffent types of fishing. I've only used them for coho & steelhead.
