Trouble finding parts for tilt/trim unit?

I looked in my service manual but the pic of the hydraulic unit is so busy that I couldn't really see what I would need?

My motor is an Evinrude 1995 3 cyl 50 HP...( E50 DT LEOS )..[ It has the "FasTrak " three ram system ..pg. 597 in the manual]

My seal on the main ram is leaking when I raise the motor and I'm guessing I need a rebuild kit??

Can anyone send me in the right direction on this site's "Parts" section to find what I need to rebuild the cylinder.

I have 2 smaller assist rams on this unit and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to just replace the "O" rings in all 3 cylinders?

I have never messed with hydraulics but my neighbor has worked on fork lifts and is a ceryified hydraulic guy so I will just get the parts and he is going to help me do the work.

Thanks in advance for any input. If anyone has any advice on "What I should replace" ie, just the main seals or to rebuild the entire guts of the units then that is definitely something I am interested in hearing about before I drop a bunch of $$ that I might not need to spend.. Thanks.. Hank

Re: Trouble finding parts for tilt/trim unit?

well I checked the fluid level in my tilt unit and it was really low and the oil/lube in it was all thick and black?? I added fluid and it seemed to work better but it leaks like a siv when I lift the lower leg of the motor.

It looks like only the center ram has a leak around it. Does anyone know what an "O" ring kit or what kit I would need to fix the leak? Thanks again..Hank

Go to the BRP/Evinrude on-line parts catalog for your specific motor and check the hydraulic PT&T diagram: http://shop.evinrude.com/

Black oil is worn out. Cycling the new oil by raising and lowering the unit multiple times may help.

Most leaks are from failing seals on the rams, unless the rams are pitted in which case the rams may have to be replaced. Replacing the seals is relatively easy with the right tools.

Re: Trouble finding parts for tilt/trim unit?

thanks ezeke. It is part # 0434519.. That was easy..You rock..

Another question is about the ram. About half way up there looks to be a little slightly rough spot. Doesn't look like piting but almost like saltwater corrosion or something.. I will have to see if steel wool and see if it comes off. If not I might be looking at spending a lot more than $60 for an O ring kit.. Thanks for the link and info.
