trouble finding year of engine

Can anyone please help me out with finding the year of my 150 mercury. the serial number as on the plate is 5432443. I have just purchased this boat and motor combination and was told it was an '80's motor. I have googled it and come up with nothing from the different sites that have charts for finding the year and model of motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1979.

Mercury use SERIAL numbers to identify their motors (up until 2005 anyway). Unlike MODEL numbers, serial numbers are sequential. 1979 began with 5129480, 1980 began with 5503247. Your number is inbetween those. Your motor was built in November 1979. (I'm guessing the month ).
