Tried all of the "tricks" still can't get it in.

So...

I'm thinking of removing the upper also and storing the whole works in the basement anyway...

Should I(can I) just go ahead and remove the upper right now and THEN assemble it on the bench?
Will this method be easier than trying to muscle it in myself...which so far is NOT working to well. Not enough hands to balance it/push it/guide it upward.

Thanks in advance

That's the best way to do it, at the same time you can check your alignment, grease the coupler splines, ujoints, gimbal bearing, and chec the bellows for water.

It's also a lot easier than trying to hold that lower up and line everything up at once.
