Trouble reinstalling lower half of outdrive

I removed the lower half of the outdrive and replaced water pump but I cant seem to get the lower back on the last inch. Is there a trick to this?

Pre alpha R MC-1 or whatever they are called

Check to make sure you **** show is mating with the splines.

Ayuh,.... I do 'em on the boat,....

At the inch point, ya got the water pipe started, 'n the shift shoe/ foot engaged,...
I wrap a bungee strap 'round it to hold it there at that point, if it don't slide right on,...
The drive shaft is where it belongs, twist the prop shaft the way it don't wanta turn, 'n the lower will fall into place,....

I'm guessin' ya gotta turn the spline, 'bout 1/2 the width of the spline,...

Bondo its on the boat the water pipe is in the lower section. Bungee is a good idea. I feel like i dont have enough hands.
