Maybe someone else has run into this. Boat has sat for 4 years when I bought it. I put in new gas but some old gas was in there too. Sent carb in for rebuilding but I have to drain the gas in the stainless steel tank before I run the boat again.

I can't siphon from the filler because there are two 90 degree turns in the pipe just above the tank. Disconnected the fuel pump hose and ran it out the bilge drain where the hose was lower than the tank. Tried for 3 hours to siphon and couldn't get a steady stream. Fuel fills pump ball, empties ball and doesn't continue. I sucked gas out (blech) it started but stopped and wouldn't flow. I cannot get to any other opening in the tank.

Help!! Any suggestions. I seem to be defying gravity.

Once again harrisg, it always help to give a few more details such as model and year of boat.

That aside, most likely your gas tank is acting as it was designed to. There is probably an antisiphon valve in the pick up fitting that is to prevent precisely what you are trying to do.

As stated above, the tank is fitted with an anti-siphon valve (coast guard requirement).

Small universal electric fuel pump and 6'hose.
About 30 bucks at the auto parts store.
Nice little item to have around as a spare as well.
I drain my tanks every year before storage using one and it even got me back to shore once.
I keep it on the boat just in case in my emergency box.

Excellent idea Sagabu.
It would also be a way to get fuel from your main tanks to the auxillary motor (kicker) tank.

Uncle Dave
