Hello new to this site, I have a 73 1150 that is getting no fire to the plugs. The gentleman that had this boat before me blew his 85 Merc 1982 model and replaced it with a 1973 Merc 1150. He used the 82 control box and I am at a loss where to start on trouble shooting my starting issue. The stator wires are gone and thought this could be the problem. It does have a new CDI. Not sure if the ignition switch is the problem or the coil or something else. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

That control box should be compatible with your motor. I'm presuming it's a MerControl?

The stator wires are not required to run the motor. They are only to charge the battery, however if the battery dies, so does your motor:)

What do you mean by new CDI? Can you describe it or provide any more details?

That motor needs +12VDC on the red and white wires on the switchbox (non distributor side) in order to have spark. The CDIElectronics, com website has some additional tests.

The CDI I replaced was actually the distributor base that contains the trigger (3 Wires).

Thanks Lee

I thought the white wires was where the tach wire connected. I must have read the diagram wrong. I will get 12vDC to the white and see what happens.

Thanks Lee

What are your opinions on the new switch box by CDI that replaces the coil and switchbox Part # 114-2986. I notice a lot of plastic deterorating where the wires attach (one the switchbox),even some large chunks that have broken off.
