Trouble Starting, just clicks

I'm currently running a '93 Formula 252 SS with a 454 mag/Bravo I. Here's the problem, when I attempt to start the motor, it usually just clicks and won't start (or turn over). It will eventually start after several tries (turns of the key), sometimes 10, sometimes 30. Once the motor starts, it is fine for the rest of the day and will usually start on the first try. But by the next time I take the boat out, I continue to have the same problem over again. The "clicking" noise sounds (and feels) like it is coming from the Mercathode unit next to the carb. Starter and solenoid appear to be fine. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

sounds like a defective slave solinoid. happens all the time. its a common problem.
replace it and see what happens. your system has a master on the starter and a slave near the mercathode controller.
good luck and keep posting

Thanks for the help, I cleaned all the connections to the slave solenoid, which looks alot like an ignition coil, and the problem appears to be fixed for now.
