i have a 1983 johnson 115 V4. i runs fine except when starting after use. when out skiing or fishing the motor becomes very hard to start after being shut off to allow someone back into the boat. it seems if i raise it up out of the water a little it starts easier. any suggestions on the problem.

Re: trouble starting

are your exhaust relief hole on the back of the leg clean and open?

if they are blocked, it can cause the problem you describe.

rgds

Frank

Re: trouble starting

Try running next time with the hood off. A build-up of heat (heat soak) after running hard can boil fuel in carbs flooding the engine. Alcohol based fuels or alcohol additives are bad for this. Electronics like to fail from high heat as well. Leaving the hood off will tell if its heat related....Use CAUTION with the hood OFF!!

Good luck! :)
