I only have the serial number of this motor so I'm guessing the year here. Looks like late 60's early 70's tho. The specs say it needs to be on the starboard side of the cam follower when the throttle shaft begins to move. However, It seems that the cam follower is before the mark when the throttle begins to move. I've maxed out my adjustment on the cam. Is there something I'm missing here? Thanks.

I moved the cam as far away from the follower as possible.

I bought it for very cheap as a project. It wasn't running before the guy said. He couldn't get spark. I wonder if he broke the cam and put one from a different motor on. I'll check the part # to be sure.

Well I think I found my problem. PN is 313676 for a 70s late 60s model. I have 311280 on my cam.

The PN 311280 is for around a '65. This was my original problem, not knowing the model just the serial #. All model ID is gone. Can someone help me identify whether this is a late 60's early 70's motor or an early 60's? Is there something on the motor that I can tell the difference, maybe the carb is diff. or part numbers? Thanks.

try contacting BRP Customer Service with your serial no. as they can probably give you the year model from that

If you go back to the start of thses motor repair sections & to FAQ, on the top of page 2 you will see a link to my 9.9/15hp articles. In that I also cover the bulk of the 6 & 8hp motors as well. All the info I have found the pre 66s (CD models) are listed differently than the 1966 +, however the parts list I have seen things appear pretty darned close.
