trouble with new l/u

I brought home my 2004 yamaha 150hp fourstroke with a jet unit installed at the dealer last year. I took off the unit last night and reinstalled the prop unit that originally was on it. I mounted it on and it slid on after I aligned the gear shaft with the spline, which took almost 20 minutes of me holding the l/u while manuvering it in. it finally went in and now it spins freely in neutral, but when I shift it in either forward or rev. the shaft can not turn over easily in either direction. In neutral it also turns when I turn the flywheel over but can easily stop the prop shaft from turning while the flywheel spins. Is this normal? I have not had a yamaha prop unit before.
