Hi guys,

I have an OMC 5.0 I/O(92) on a 23' SWL. My trim was working then every once in awhile the down trim didn't work. Up always works. It progressively got worse and now I cannot get the trim down at all. It sounds like a wiring problem to me as it deteriorated but I wanted to check with the experts if I should be looking elsewhere.

Re: Troubleshooting Trim

Have someone press the buttons, you check the selenoids to see if the are getting the 12 volts at the small terminals. If they are the down selenoid is going bad.

Re: Troubleshooting Trim

I am having problems as well and I need to test the selenoid. Does anyone have a picture of where this is on a boat?

Thanks,
ScAndal

Re: Troubleshooting Trim

Ok found my problem it was real easy.
For the novice boaters (which is what I am) this is how the troubleshooting went:

Trim went up not down.
So general wiring for trim is RED Power
Green (Grass) down, Blue (sky) UP.

Disconnected all wires at switch, touched red to green, red to blue... still nothing.

Then followed wires to relay.. repeat AH HA.. Bad connection on relay, replaced and running again!

Re: Troubleshooting Trim

Cisco, I had the same problem with my '91 5.0L OMC. Would trim up but not down. Traced the problem to a loose wire at the ignition switch. All is working now. Glad you found the loose connection.
