I just rebuilt the lower half of a Right Hand TRS drive. I used a new pinion gear and a new drive gear as well as some new bearings. Do these new parts have to be broken in some how or can I just go how they are? If they have to be broken in, then how do we do that?

Re: TRS Rebuild question

Ok, thanks. Yeah I used the book and the correct tools as well as the correct shimming tools to measure pinion height and such. The last step was kind of hard where you have to do the lower driveshaft bearing preload but other than that everything seemed to go smooth.
Thanks again.

Re: TRS Rebuild question

Quoted from Mercury TRS Service Manual #5, 10 Hour Break in period
1.Avoid full throttle starts.
2.Do not operate at a constant speed for extended periods.
3.Do not exceed 75% of full throttle during first 5 hours.
4.Drive should be shifted into forward gear at least 10 times and run at moderate RPM after each shift.
