I just read what Texasmark said in the other tru-hub prop post and found that verry interesting. It makes sence that the exaust would wash back behind the boat making it quieter. I had a force 15 hp that was like a 1996 and it still had the exaust exit through the hole at the anti-vent plate. I wondered about that. That motor had a big cone on the end of the prop. It looked stupid. I always wanted to take it off. It was like 6 inches long. Just found the subject interesting. And i really really cant spell for **** !

Re: tru-hub prop topic.

Just a point of clarification: It's not a "tru-hub" but rather a "through-hub" prop -- as in the exhaust passes "through the hub". My comment has absolutely nothing to do with your spelling ability. Incorrect spelling is still easire to read than the "text messaging lingo we get to decipher periodically".

Drew, that's exactly how I feel about the Force design (in their higher hp engines) where it isn't thru hub. But I don't have one so it is really none of my business....like the house down the street that you don't like the looks of. Just look the other way when you drive by. Grin

For what it's worth, I had a 9.9 McCullough Fisherman ('60-70's vintage) which was, or was very similar to the Sears Ted Williams motor of the same size. You can go to the McC or Scott-Atwater sites and find a pic of it.

The motor (engine) was a compact, husky, tough looking critter but it had one serious drawback.

The lower unit housing made the bulge over the antivent plate like others, but instead of venting the gas below the vent plate or via the prop hub, they just chopped the back off this bulge and the exhaust went straight out OVER THE VENT PLATE.

Under planing speed it was reasonably decent. But as soon as the water left the rear of the motor, you heard raw exhaust and the noise was deafening.

Too bad as it ruined an otherwise sweet engine and it alone caused me to sell it.
