Truck Bedliner instead of carpet?

This may be a dumb question, but is it possible to use that roll on bedliner stuff for truck beds in a boat? I figure it will probably work in an aluminum boat, but mine is fiberglass. I ripped up all the carpet and the floor looks like the bathtub that your grandma uses. You know the one with the no-slip texturized surface? I don't want to put in carpet because right now it's really easy to clean. I can just take the plug out and powerwash it. Any thoughts?

Truck bedliner should work but depending on what type you use, it may be hard on bare feet. You will have to scuff the fiberglass per the instructions but it should stick. I use Herculiner in the tub of my Jeep and I've found that it sticks to just about anything. Another thing to consider is that bed liner is typically black which will get hot in the sun.

Isn't it interesting how many people want to use that stuff on everything?

I wouldn't what if you don't like it? What if you have to remove it?

Why not thicken some resin and smooth out the hull, paint it, tape off around where you walk and roll some more paint with nonskid.

Maybe a nice light grey to keep the glare down.

It is horrid on bare feet. I applied the stuff to a small runabout and wished I hadn't. If you're going to be in the boat w/o shoes, I'd seriously consider another route.

I'm using black carpet in my boat and really like it. The drawbacks are it gets warm, and it shows every piece of dirt or lint. I think it looks great, so I don't mind the extra work associated with it.

Something you might could do is use the bed liner for fishing & shoe days, and maybe have a removable carpet for ski/shoeless days.

Thanks guys! Well this is a fishing only boat. I don't think it would even pull a skier. It's a 15'4" 1985 ProGator 154S. Pretty much just for catching crappie. Grey is exactly what I'm looking for. Not too hot for the East Texas heat here. Herculiner and Grizzly are looking like my best options right now. Has anyone here actually done this? Car or boat?

I used Herculiner on mine. I had no problems except the fumes on a hot day made me feel really good. ;)

Was it a difficult process? How about expense?

Not difficult at all. I bought the 1 gallon kit. I mixed it (the stuff is really thick) and applied using the roller. There is a brush in the kit to dab the stuff into the corners. Just be careful to mask everything you don't want the stuff to to get on. It's like rolling a very thick paint.

Harbor Freight (yeah, I know) sells a texture gun that can spray herculiner if you have an air compressor. Makes for a much quicker job but puts emphasis on masking everything you don't want herculined.
