I've been looking around this forum and the paint manufacturers web sites to choose the best bottom paint for my boat. Here are the details:
17' Power, Vee, Homebuilt, Bottom is fiberglass over marine ply
Trailered
One to ten days at a time in the water
Current bottom paint is Interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote (The wrong choice for a trailered boat and is 10 years old. Past time for this to go away.)
Almost always used in salt water (Gulf of Mexico)
I want to use a proper bottom paint, not a topside. I've read several posts that indicate the Interlux VC is good and would meet this application, but it only comes in white and apparently tinting may cause some problems. I need a bottom paint available in a green color.
Other candidates are Interlux Micron Extra, and Petit Vivid. Both manufacturers indicate compatibility with what's on the hull now after a light/moderate sanding. (I understand the concerns with sanding Bottomkote.)
Your comments and recommendations are welcomed. Thanks.
