Okay, this has likely been asked several thousand times in the past but I'm coming up pretty empty on my internet searches. I suspect because there's a confusion between my boat registration and the HIN.

I've done a lot of digging and thought I knew what I was looking at, an AQ 255B with a 350 Chevy circa 1978 in a 20 foot Fiberform openbow. My local DMV though states this is a 1987 18 foot model 1880. Now for the most part, I don't care if it's a 78 or 87 as this is a project boat for mt son and I. What i'm stuck on is there are a number of things not functioning (like the power trim) which I know will need parts and it'd be great to find a wiring diagram so I don't have to rip it all out without knowing what I'm doing.

So far I have not found any tags on the actual outdrive. I have the engine serial which does identify it as a 1978 255 HP 350 C.I.D Chevy. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks for your time
RJ

Hi RJ,

I believe there is a requirement of 3 posts before you can include a picture. Do you have a picture you can link to of the outdrive? Have you contacted Volvo Penta to see if they have any info?

Is this where you searched with your serial number?

I'd be curious to see what you find out. I grew up in a boating family in Sweden and all our boats (as far as I remember) were Volvo-powered. We didn't have any V8s though. I know several of our boats had the AQ270 outdrive though.

I couldn't help myself from googling this topic a bit myself.:facepalm: It looks like the AQ255B came with the 280B outdrive in most cases. Did you see this book, which seems to cover what you have?

Myself I have no affiliation or experience with these manuals but thought perhaps they could be helpful.
