This only begins as a love story.. I've gotten to know my transmissions intimately in the last week - but I don't even know their names (more specifically their gear ratios). I've searched all over for any identifying marks - but haven't found anything that helps. They lie in the belly on my 26' Chris Craft that I purchased in October. It was repowered with twin 350's after two 305s were taken out. The previous owner didn't bother to change the props. So that is one on my current projects. I need to find what gear ratio they are.

A boatyard mechanic showed me where the metal tag should be (for a Borg Warner), but mine don't have any. Each transmission is two pieces - meaning that the each has a (for lack of a better word) gear box on the back end. Thus I suspect that the ratio is not 1:1.

Any ideas on how I can find the ratio?
