tube from motor.JPG Lower unit has a tube sticking out of it. Can anyone tell me what it is and should it be hooked to something. And Why do I need a URL to post a thread.

I suspect you accidentally clicked the add a link icon. It's besides the camera at the top left of a post window.

Once it's activated, it can't be eliminated, something to do w/ a glitch in the vB5 forum software. Supposed to be addressed in the next update to the forum software. Just use iboats.com if it happens again.

Sorry for the frustration, wish I could help w/ your question about the motor.

That tube is for a speedometer. It takes the place of the bayonet type pick-up screwed to the transom. It is better because 1. It will not get fouled by weeds as easily as the separate pick-up and 2. Since the impact hole is in the lower part of the leading edge of the lower unit, it is more accurate during turns. No, you do not need to connect it to anything but if you want to do so use a plastic joiner to attach it to the speedometer tube which runs up to the dashboard (if the boat has one--speedo tube, that is.)

OK Thanks Frank. The speedo doesn't work worth a hoot now, so I may disconnect the other and hook it up here. Just bought the boat on Thursday. 1990 70hp model.

Thanks for the reasoning on the link. I couldn't figure out what to put in there so I just inserted an insurance company url. I kept trying to the IMG info for the pic.
