1982 evinrude 150hp has small tubes coming out the back sides of the engine and go nowhere! Not fuel line, too small and not going to the carbs! They just dead end ! Are they vents of some sort? And for what ? Can take pics if need be but not till tomorrow! Thanks!

What is the ---" backside "-----Of the engine.-----Post some pictures.--------Sounds like the oil recirculation system.-----Or part of the electric primer valve hoses.

The two lower hoses look to be identical and may have been cut ! The upper hose is much smaller as far as OD is concerned, but has a larger ID. Much more flexible! It originates from the bottom of the red mark in the 2nd pic! I’ve searched for diagrams, but no luck! All this could explain why the engine is covered in oil!

Those are the recirc lines and fit on the recirc valve on intake under carbs

Ok, just found this diagram. May just be what I need. However, and perhaps one of you can maybe clarify this, but all those hoses come out of one area and go to another; and not just hang loose like the diagram might suggest.3376D2F4-AA16-4F95-BBB8-BDF2A9ECF28E.png

If I would have read the fine print (didn’t have a magnifying glass handy), I would have noticed the words “check valve filter and nipple assemblies! That should answer the question!

When I first bought the engine several seasons ago it seemed to really run good! However, I did notice the sides of the engine was quite oily from several of those hoses not being connected from point “a”to “b”! So what affect do these hoses have on performance? Would the engine have more top end, reach maximum wot rpms, etc. thanks!

Nothing to do with RPM of the motor.----The bore of the hoses is just too small to allow significant airflow !!-----If you have engine running issues then post compression values here.
