I am needing a tune up kit for a 1955 fleetwin 7.5 model 7518. I have searched and am having trouble finding compatible parts. I am wanting coil, points, and plug wires(including boots). I am also having trouble with it kicking out of gear. What would cause this??

Re: Tune up help

kicking out of gear, is the clutch dog in the lower unit. usually requires replacing the clutch dog, and forward gear, (rebuild, if you can find the part). the rest of what you are looking for is available at laingsoutboards.com. great guys to work with, they may even have the lower parts.

Re: Tune up help

Thanks for idea but I took apart and checked em and they seemed alright. So after I examined it for a minute I found that the hole where the gear shift handle slides into main body was cracked and was starting to break apart and was causing the shifter to jitter around so hard because of sitting in there loose it was knockin it out of gear. Gonna see if I can put a small weld on it later but for now am just using a clamp to keep hole the size it is supposed to be. Thankfully though the parts cost more than I got the whole boat for!!
