Tune up/Ignition System/Points?

My '96 Larson 3.0 VolvoPenta has never had a tune up. I replace plugs every year but never removed the cap or wires. Starts good, Runs 4500-4700 if I need it to, idles good.<br /> <br />Should I replace cap & wires and such?<br /><br />My Engine Serial Number is MCNA 4110131584. Do I have points or electronic? Can I buy quality ignition parts at NAPA or should I go to the dealer?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Mark

You have a Model 3.0GSMNCS engine<br />It has an electronic Delco EST distributor. Putting in new Cap and rotor, along with the plugs would sure help. Wires are ok unless there is a problem with them.<br />Napa probably carries the Sierra brand of cap and rotor for your engine.<br />Sure hope you are doing water pump impeller changes and drive maintenance more often than your poor cap and rotor

Remove 2 screws from distributor cap.<br />Lift off cap and move aside but leave wires attached.<br />Pull rotor off distributor shaft.<br />Push new rotor on distributor shaft.<br />Sit new cap on distributor so screws line up, tighten screws.<br />Pull one plug wire at a time off the old cap and put on new cap in the like position.<br />See Volvo dealer, get service manuals.
