tune up parts

I have been going back and forth in my head about what to tune up on my Wellcraft 20sx 1993. It has a 430b engine. I know I need to change the lower unit fluid and the engine oil. I talked to my father who gave me the boat and found out it has the original plugs wires dizzy and distributor cap.

I know that this is a rabbit hole and i could simply replace it all but the more I spend on parts the less I get to enjoy the boat, less money for gas and what not.

For its age the boat doesn't have a ton of hours on it as most of the last 15 years it only got put in the water every third year.

Also I am trying to figure out how to get parts for reasonable prices as if these were for a car I'd spend less than $100 for all of it and the marine parts are crazy expensive.

However good plugs will be about $4 each. Dizzy cap and rotor about $40 and plug wires about $45

For those prices I would do all the tuning, but the Marine parts I have seen have been around double that. I guess pluggs and wires don't need to be Marine?

What a reasonable place to get basic marine parts?

those prices are marine, taken off a 20 second search with my phone while drinking a beer. standard automotive plug wires would be too short by about 6", plus the dizzy end would be wrong (different dizzy towers) not sure where you are shopping, however you have to shop around for best price. dont forget, iboats also matches pricing. If I wanted to, I could find another 10% off

I had looked at the volvopenta parts site and the i think marinepartsexpress was the best I had done so far.

I appreciate the info though. I'm trying to figure out what can be auto and what needs to be marine. I don't want to buy parts that have marine stamped on them and that the difference in doubling the price.

This is my first boat and I am a little apprehensive about everything. I should stop trying to use training wheels I guess. If I can swap an engine in my wagoneer I can tune up this boat.

The distributor cap needs to be marine. The rotor, plugs, and wires can be auto. I couldn't find long auto wires with the correct ends, so I bought extra long wires that I had to crimp the plug ends on to. As mentioned above, make sure the cap ends are the right configuration (male verses female).

marine plugs are preferred for corrosion. the 430B uses a prestolite dizzy, so finding an automotive version will be next to impossible (as Prestolite wasnt makeing similar automotive dizzys)

Ignition part should always be marine.
