Vague, I know...but here goes- My 85 Johnson 6 hp- I recently rebuilt the carb, replaced the plugs and rebuilt the fuel pump. I got the motor running- HUUGE accomplishment alone- but now I need to fine tune rough idle. I recently bought the motor and just got it to run period, not sure if carb was out of adjustment before.
My symptoms include: runs fine at higher RPM, idles rough and chokes and dies after a minute or so, gradually idling down until it dies. Engine smokes alot as well.

I am not sure how far in I should adjust the rich/lean needle on the front of the cowling, or if this even has any effect.
Any thoughts??

Thanks all!!

Jason

Elvis,

Slow speed. Start at 1 1/2 turns out after gently seating the needle.

Run 50:1 fuel/oil mix-TCW-3 rated oil. (one pint to six gallons)
