I just put an L31 880 block 4 bolt main vortec head 350 in place of the old 260 hp 350 in my 1988 Baja Sunsport 196. I did a little port work, new valve seals, new retainers and offset keepers for more lift, and beehive springs. Cam is Summit 8801 roller 212/218 262/267 .525/.520 112 LSA.

I have a few questions:
I see 18* of mechanical advance with the stock ignition module. Is that what they were setup for stock? With 15* initial, I measured 33* total.

Stock q jet on a 2116 Edelbrock intake. It wanted a little more fuel at idle. I put in CP secondary metering rods in place of the CL stock rods for a little more fuel. Should this be okay for this new combo? Haven't ran it with the new rods yet but hoping that helps.

The boat should weigh about 2500 lbs, I think. With a full 20 gal tank, me, my dad, and my dog, I figure about 3k lbs and it did 60 mph. The boat did 60 before when it was a little younger. It seems to run very well and the mid range torque is excellent. She pops right up and is very responsive. I was thinking this combo would get me close to 350 hp and expected a little more top speed out of it. I don't care that much as it's a huge improvement as is, but I am curious if I should expect more with some tweaking. I did order a new cheap 14 1/2 x 21p prop. The old one was a little beat up and I can't remember the pitch which is now illegible. Haven't ran it with the new prop yet. Hoping the prop and secondary metering rods help. I will run it again this weekend and see how it does. Once I try this prop pitch I may get a nice stainless prop. I want to make sure the WOT rpms are right and forgot to look last run. I was too busy looking to see the change from 59 to 60 mph on my phone gps haha.

Approx 30* total advance is normal
Every 1 mph increase above max hull speed takes a lot of hp

Get some slip numbers to find out what is on the table to use
