Turbo Tax...

Man, I just went to order Turbo Tax for 2006. Its going to cost me $75 for the Premier version with state. That is getting to be too much. Might just go back to using a calculator and download the forms from the .gov sites.

Seems to me Turbo Tax is raking it in.

Maybe I'll see if my brother and sister want to split the cost for a store bought version that comes on a CD. That should save a few bucks.

What are you folks going to do this year?

How about Tax Cut Premium w/State for 29.95? Anyone use Tax Cut?

RF, Turbo Tax Premier with state is 59.99 at Costco. At least its a $20 savings. But then again I don't belong to costco anymore.

I don't know about you, but I won't do any online tax returns. Now matter how cheap.

Any other options?

$59.99 seems pretty reasonable for getting your taxes done.

I have always done turbo tax deluxe I think it was. Always got it at Sams. The good thing is that you can deduct the cost of the program when you file as a tax prep fee.

Been using TT for years, each year I buy it and share it with several people. BUT only 1 user can file online, the others must print and mail a hard copy. Divide the cost by as many users.

It would be a great price if TT did your taxes for you. But it doesn't. You do your taxes yourself.

BTW I was audited. Cost the IRS a few grand that ended up in my pocket. Seems I miscalculated the basis for some stock transactions and over paid the tax due. That was a hand written tax return using a calculator. A simple math error triggered the audit.

Back about 2000 I did the calculator and headache bit and came up owing about $6200.

On the advice of my son I got TT Deluxe and did it over. Owed $2875.

TT Deluxe would be a bargain at several hundred bux and still be cheaper than a CPA.

Of course I used it every year since. I always print it out and file by mail, never online.

I used HR Block online filing, for 39.95 included federal/state/e-file. Since I used it last year, I can imports lots of information, i.e personal/employer info. Got everything done in half an hour, my direct deposit refunds are on their way to my bank account. It is about as painless as it can get as far as tax goes.d:)

Don't know what the cost is this year, but I've been using Taxcut ever since I got a Computer. One free Federal e-file after a rebate. Works for me.
