Does anyone use it that has to file in multiple states? I want to be sure it does before I buy it.

Did you do it online or did you purchase the program? I just went looking for a TT forum. There seems to be a lot of them and there are a bunch of unanswered questions on them. Even some about multiple state issues.

This is actually for my son. He had a WA DC employer but worked out of the State of WA. They did not have software to acknowledge that WA State did not have income tax so they did all his withholding in the State of Colorado. He needs to file for a refund of State taxes withheld.

Then he did work in the State of Oregon and is probably due a refund as well. I just do not want him to buy TT and then have questions that there is no place to get a quick answer. That even includes his ability to file for two states.

I use TaxSlayer.com myself, it's registered with the IRS as a e-filing service, and multiple state filings are easy. You may even qualify for free filing and not be required at all to pay for the service. I've use TT in the past and find TaxSlayer to be much better, check it out and let me know if you need any help with it.

Great link LGB but on cursory inspection I did not see anything that would have related to multiple state filing. Seems that there is only state filing for the state you live in. Plus, for my son, he is only 21 and TaxSlayer states at least 25 y/o.

WizeOne - You may want to reread the description - "TaxSlayer.com: Free Federal tax return preparation and e-file if your AGI is $56,000 or less and you are age 25 or younger or 65 or older or you are active Military or if you qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit or if your AGI is $10,000 or less regardless of age. Includes Form 982 (Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief).

Don't know about the various states.

Thanks for pointing that out OP. I emailed them with my questions about 2 state filing.

The Turbo-Tax Deluxe version that you buy at the store includes one state copy that you can download for free. Additional states cost extra.

A previous post about filing in Mass and FL brought a small grin. Florida doesn't have an income tax. Instead, there's a simple form for what they call "Intangible Tax," and that is only required for high earners.

As i remember it (it was years ago when it was a PT FL resident). It was more along the lines of I had to tell MASS that i was a FL resident. And I did have to file some sort of FL return/declaration.
When I did do it, it was on the deluxe, store bought version... not free online version.
