turn knob on front of 85hp suzuki motor?

I have an 88 85hp suzuki and on the front of the motor there is a knob that turns. i have no idea of what it is because the owner befoer me painted over the sticker. any help on the settings and what it is?

Could be the flux capacitor, I know a few 2 strokes had that option.

It's the idle speed knob, for trolling.

what are the settings for it? It has four different steps

clockwise - lean to rich..settings depend on how she runs..try at middle setting..adjust from there.
