Twin 165 HP in line 6cyl engines

What do you all know about these??<br /><br />Looking at buying a boat with these as twins 385hrs its a 27ft Carver Montego 1989. Is this a good power package?? What am I looking at if they have to be replaced???<br /><br />Thanks<br /><br />Tallman

Tallman,that is not a small boat.Not enough motor if you plan on cruising.If you are not in a hurry,with the right props it will be all right. Charlie

Yeah thats what I figured...<br /><br />That must be why it is so cheap...

tallman,take a closer look,merc did not offer straight 6 cyl. in 1989.they are probably the 4 cyl 165, unless some one has changed them out .

27’ is a though size. Hard to squeeze two V8 in there, I don’t even want to tell you the problems you can have there. But all in all like crazy charlie said with the right set up you could do ok. Remember twin engines will not double your speed but being on a large body of water the redundancy of that second engine is nice.
