Hey Guys,

So I would like to winterize my boat this year myself and take the time to learn the process and do it CORRECTLY!

I have a 28' Chris Craft AmeroSport 284 with a pressurized water system, hot water tank is disconnected (Previous owner did that, eventually I'll put a new one in), and of course two holding tanks, one fresh water, other for black water. Engines are twin 305s with fresh water cooling and of course OMC Cobra Outdrives that have been serviced yearly.

What is needed for me to perform the winterization in my driveway? tools and product wise/oil type, lube type for outdrives, etc.

Also, I know with the Cobra's you want to use the top hole for filling and bottom hole for draining correct? so that an air bubble is not created?

Also, does anyone know how to access the Shower Sump System? Turns out I think I may have some water backing up into the drain in the shower which means I probably want that fixed before winter....!

Thanks guys!!

Here is a thread from the Adults only sticky. Should help you on what needs to be done for winterizing.

For your shower sump questions, you should really post over in the Boat topics forum. This forum is for engine and drive only.

No, that is not correct. Below is the correct procedure.

Don,

Thanks for the information! I am new to the forum so I am still trying to figure everything out.

For the drain and fill procedure, I noticed it said King Cobra... Is that the same procedure for the normal cobra's?

Also, in the winterization documents, I noticed it said to clean the sludge out in the bottom of the drives.. How can you do that?

LAST question I promise.. I notice that it said something about the gimbal gear.. I have noticed that sometimes when steering the boat, the steering wheel will click a little bit. Is this a sign of the gimbal gear going bad?

Thanks!!

Here is what it said, and there is nothing about sludge in the drive........ and you don't have a gear lube monitor.

Don't forget to remove the gear lube monitor (if equipped) and clean it. The gear lube will form sludge in the bottom after a couple of years. Clean it yearly and you won't have a problem.

No.
