Hello, I wonder if someone knows how to fix the following:
Took my boat for a spin, 1998 formula 280 ss twin 5.7 efi
Bravo 3, everything fine for a while but when increased rpms around 4,000 after a minute or two both engines died, shut off completely. Open hatch and could only hear click click when pressing ignition in port engine, nothing on starboard eng. Tried breaker on efi module and nothing. After 20 min aprox and pressing many times the breaker, port engine starts and starboard too like nothing happened.
Ran boat again at 3000 rpms and everything smooth, increased rpms to 4000 aprox and the same thing again, engines died, wait, start again...
Any idea what's causing engines to die at higher rpms?

Sounds common to both engines, so I'm thinking electrical rather than fuel (if it was fuel they would crank immediately after shutdown). How are the alternator outputs? The battery switch connections? Anything common electrically to both engines...

Is this Formula new to you? I am wondering if you are running on just one of the 2 batteries? If so, I am wondering if it acts differently if you set the battery switch to "both"

Yes, I agree, must be electrical. I will take your advice and check alternator output. I was thinking in getting a CodeMate diagnostic tool to plug in the ecm and read the codes...is it worth investing the 60 bucks?

Do engines shut off if temp rises beyond 180?

Not shutdown, but a system called Engine Guardian will reduce the power available...
