I recently put a pair of 1994 johnson 150s on my 1981 25' Mako.
I have had it out a few times and they seem to be running well now.
after, some basic maintenance including cleaning all 12 carbs.

Loaded with fuel, (125 gallons) and two people, She can only make 23 Kts. With both engines maxing out at between 4100 and 4400 rpms.
She is using about 1.4 gallons per mile running wide open. ( i only know how to run one speed. :) )

do I need to look at changing out my props to get a higher top speed and better fuel efficiency or is this about all I should expect.

There also seems to be a fair amount of water being pushed up between the engine and the transom. should I think about dropping the engines down a hole? I have them set so the botttom of the cavitation plate is even with the very bottom of the hull.

any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Those motors won't last long if that's all the rpm you can get. Everything you mentioned points to the motors being too low and perhaps some different props. This is asuming the motors are running right.
