Are there different types of 2-part foam for use in replacing the core foam in a moulded F/G boat? This is not just for flotation, it is a part of the structure of the boat. What do you recommend? I was thinking of the 2Ib density as mentioned elsewhere on this site. Where can I buy such a material? I have used a 2-part foam in the past for making moulds. It cured to a rigid closed cell block. You could crush it between you fingers when cured. Is this the same stuff or must the foam be soft and flexible? Sooo many things to consider.

Catchem
What type of repair/rebuild are you involved in?
I have yet to start until I am sure of what I am getting into. I have a 1985 13ft 6in Barkley Young. It apparently has a foam core with inner and outer F/G skins. There's water in there for sure, just not sure how much. Not sure whether there are any wooden stringers or (hopefully)not.
From the people I have spoken to, 2gal of the 2Ib density foam will expand to a volume of 8cu ft. Need to be careful with this stuff. If it can't expand freely it will blow apart whatever it is trapped in. I've seen it happen. What are some of the web sites you mentioned?

Boatist thanks for the link. I have also found several other mfr's with the same product. They all seem to be the same - on paper anyways. I guess its time to get my hands dirty.

Re: Two part foam

Beside marine dealers you can also look at plastic dealers. A company out here called tap plastic also has two part foam and it is a little cheaper. If you do it your self understand the foam is powerful and in a closed space with on where to excape it will rip your boat apart. Do not over fill. The foams I have tried have been water proof. I mixed some and forced in under water for 2 weeks in a tub. When I checked it was just as solid and light ats before. If you find something that works good please report back.
