Merc. Black Max 1986. v-6. Not 100% sure of model number but last part of the number is ELPTO.

Cylinders number one and four don't have spark. I switched the coils and found out it is not the coils causing the problem but am wondering what would cause two random cylinders to not fire. I'm guessing they are not getting the power that feeds the coils. Please help. (I diagnosed that everything after the coil is fine like plugs and plug wires.)

Thanks

Re: Two random cylinders with no spark

It is probably trigger or stator that is bad.

There is a test for your igntion system on the CDI Electronics web site. It will tell you the ohm specs for the stator, and how to test trigger as well.
